A common concern for owners of outdoor pets is the presence of wildlife.
Stories of lost cats and coyote sightings usually lead people to
undesirable conclusions.
In reality, vehicles are responsible for most feline fatalities.
Foxes are a neutral, and sometimes curious neighbor. Unless a cat
becomes threatening, such as stealing food or approaching young,
a fox won't behave aggressively. In areas where foxes and cats
have frequent contact, they may even become comfortable with each other.

Domestic dogs, even smaller breeds, are more of a threat to foxes than
visa versa. Stray dogs, or those not restrained by fence or leash,
naturally form small packs and may harass wildlife. Fortunately most owners
are responsible, and supervise their dogs while outside.
If you do see stray dogs or cats roaming your area, please contact the nearest
animal shelter. The stray might become lost, hungry, or injured and needs
to be claimed by their owner.
To minimize contact between foxes and domestic pets, remember to bring in your
companion animals at night. It will also keep them dry, warm and safe from
the danger of roadside accidents.
With a little care, pets should be able to enjoy the outdoors safely.
