Emergency Help

If you find an injured fox, please do not approach it. The fox will be frightened, defensive, and may further injure himself. Do your best to keep other people, pets, cars, etc away from him. In the UK contact the National Fox Welfare Society and elsewhere contact a local wildlife rescuer immediately.

Sometimes, young kits are left alone while the mother searches for food. They might wander away from the den site, and appear lost or abandoned. Do your best not to disturb him, and the mother should be back within a few hours.

If the kit remains alone for more than a day or two there is a chance the mother has been killed. Orphaned kits are vulnerable until summer, and may require special care.

Use the Law

Write your local government representative, and ask them to support ethical wildlife protection:

All Countries
Ireland Parliament Scotland Parliament
U.K. Parliament Canada Parliament
U.S. National Representatives U.S. State Representatives

Exercise your right to vote.

Observe. If you're an outdoor enthusiast, be a mindful observer. Educate yourself about the hunting rules in your area, such as seasons, limits and boundaries. Talk to local law enforcement if you think you've seen something suspicious or illegal.

Support Organizations

Donate resources, time or funds to organizations that rescue and rehabilitate wildlife. Check the phone book for a local clinic, and find out what they need most. Here are the UK centers that specialize in foxes:

Join a group to stay informed about current issues. You may have a local organization that fights for animals. Here are a few that work internationally:

For more listings, please see AnimalConcerns.org and World Animal Net.

Remember to research the views of an organization before lending your support. Here are some general tips:

  • Conservation groups like World Wildlife Fund protect endangered species and land. Some may be supportive of hunting or culls of more common species.

  • Welfare groups like the Humane Society focus on humane treatment of domestic animals.

  • Rights groups, like PETA, protect all species through activism and media campaigns.
Research an organization to understnd if it deserves your contribution. Fox Forest does not currently accept donations as we promote the fox organizations listed further above.

Educate Others

Promote support for wildlife in your community.

Refuse to buy from stores that carry fur products, and make sure that any "faux fur" products are actually synthetic. China has recently been importing dog and cat fur products to the United States labelled "faux".

Dispel urban legends, fears and stereotypes about foxes. For example, a common misconception is that foxes prey on domestic cats. In reality, the two coexist and rarely fight.
